Family Friendly Shropshire Holiday Cottages

Welcome to Underhill House, in the beautiful border country of rural Shropshire. The property was originally the Harlech Estate Managers Office and Residence, and is now a beautiful family home set in five acres of fields. We have two Cottages to rent, a two bed, and a four bed.

Courtyard Cottage offers two double bedrooms, both with ensuites.  Little Underhill offers four doubles as well as its own private English country garden. Both cottages are fully equipped with all cooking essentials and basic ingredients such as salt, pepper, tea, coffee and sugar. A dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer is also provided. Fresh linen and towels are supplied for a truly comfortable stay.

We pride ourselves on being  family friendly and even have a large children’s play area for supervised use within the grounds. Guests staying for a week or more will receive a welcome basket on arrival of goodies including fresh bread, eggs from our chickens when available, and home made jams etc. There are plentiful books, games, jigsaws,  garden furniture and a selection of DVDs for those rainy days. High Chair and cot and toys are available on request. And we have a Super Fast EV charger on site (22Kw) for those of you that have made the change from fossils to clean motoring, and offer charging at  market rates.  Additionally, guests have the opportunity to interact with our small herd of two llamas– we’re told its the high spot of many people’s stays!

We are in a beautiful country spot, off a no through road, to all appearances isolated and remote – but don’t be deceived, as we are only a short drive away from the market border town of Oswestry. There is plentiful superb walking in the local area – the Old Racecourse with its spectacular county views, Offas Dyke and the local Iron Age Hill Fort. Further afield we have National Trust gems of Chirk Castle, Powis Castle and Erddig House. There are steam railways at Llangollen and Welshpool, and of course the spectacular countryside of the Snowdonia National Park is on the doorstep – with great welsh beaches and castles just a little further on.

Equally we are Ideally located to visit Shropshire and the local historic towns of Chester and Shrewsbury. And we have great access to the international connections of Manchester and Liverpool. The local rail station of Gobowen is a short hop, and from there you can be in Chester or Birmingham within the hour. Locally there are a number of good restaurants and pubs – Our personal favourites are the Cross Keys in Selatynn, and the West Arms and the Hand in Llanarmon DC. So if you are after a country retreat to get a detox from the digital frenzy of modern life - look no further.
